Georgetown, in Washington, DC, is making a comeback.
September 20, 2010
Sunday's Washington Post reports that Georgetown is making a comeback. The recession had dealt the area's "style district" a harsh blow. Georgetown was facing 12.5% vacancy rates in 2009 but they have since come down to 5.2%. However, the large number of chain stores, about 40%, does threaten the uniqueness of the area. Another interesting point is that Georgetown Park, the large nearby mall is currently half vacant, while the Main Street area continues to thrive. A good sign for Main Streets elsewhere.
